8:30 a.m. Welcome and Introductions
Meet your fellow participants and the sponsors of today’s workshop. Review goals and objectives for the workshop and begin planning ways to use the NEED materials and training in your school.
9:00 a.m. The Science of Energy
Learn more about the forms of energy while experimenting with the NEED Project’s Science of Energy kit. Kits will be provided to participating educators.
10:30 a.m. Connecticut Electric and Energy Connections
After learning about the forms of energy, discover how the different energy sources contribute to the generation of electricity in Connecticut. Check out the Connecticut numbers for all energy used.
11:00 a.m. Introduction to Energy Efficiency and Conservation
How do you use energy in your daily life at school? Learn how energy is consumed and easy steps you and your students can take to reduce energy use at home and at school. Introduce Energy House Challenge.
11:30 a.m. Lunch
12:00 p.m. Energy House and Energy Audit Tools
Learn about efficiency, conservation, and economic returns by using various materials to insulate a cardboard house and then test its efficiency and an introduction to the tools provided in the NEED Efficiency and Conservation kits to explore energy use at home and at school.
1:30 p.m. Energy Career Explorations
Take a look at our Energy Career Excursion sampler and ways to incorporate into the classroom. Play a round of Energy Career Round Up.
2:00 p.m. Test Your Energy House
2:20 p.m. Pretzel Power
This activity will help students be able to describe the energy efficiency of different kinds of transportation and list the benefits of carpooling.
