The PECO Energizing Energy Education Program

For 15 years, PECO and The NEED Project have partnered together to provide local schools with the PECO Energizing Education Program (PEEP). The PEEP program included workshops, curriculum and kits, and several other activities for schools to participate in throughout the year. PEEP 2.0 Programming invites educators from across the Philadelphia region to participate in energy education workshops and receive hands-on kits for their classrooms. PEEP 2.0 also encourages attendees to sign up for Educational Energy Audits for their schools.

In addition, schools are invited to participate in the Exelon Energy Innovation Challenge – which will engage students in exploring energy and seeking solutions to energy challenges of today and tomorrow. The Energy Innovation Challenge participants will come together in May to showcase their solutions in a virtual Energy Innovation Challenge Think Tank & Experiment session.

Participating schools receive (at no cost):

  • Hands-on training on energy and relevant curriculum (Substitute reimbursement or stipend provided)
  • Hands-on energy curriculum for the classroom
  • An opportunity for students to participate in an Educational Energy Audit with additional classroom materials
  • An opportunity to receive an Energy Fair Box to host a school or community Energy or STEM Fair
  • An opportunity to participate in an Energy Innovation Challenge

Who can participate?

  • Greater Philadelphia Area teachers in the PECO service area
  • Teachers of grades 3-12 in the following content areas:
    • Science, math, technology, gifted & talented, special education

How do we join the fun?

  • Join us for a workshop! At the training you will select the classroom kit and materials you would like to use.
  • Opportunity to participate in the 2024 Energy Innovation Challenge (Deadline 4/1/24)
  • Opportunity to receive an Energy Fair Box to help host a school Energy Fair
    • Energy Fair Box Sign Up (Deadline 3/1/24)
  • Opportunity to participate in a free PEEP 2.0 Educational Energy Audit – What is an Energy Audit? (PPT)
    • Educational Energy Audit Sign Up (Deadline 4/1/24) Schools who participate in an energy audit will also receive a NEED Energy Efficiency and Conservation Kit as a bonus!

2023-2024 Program Information

Program Overview:

This program will include hands-on energy explorations to help engage students and your local community in energy activities. Each agency will receive:

  • A cash grant to support the selection and implementation of an energy-focused community outreach project
  • Hands-on curriculum and kits to teach about the science of energy, energy sources, and energy efficiency and conservation
  • Leader training
