2008 National Energy Conferences for Educators

The NEED National Energy Conferences for Educators are hosted each July to train teachers to incorporate energy programs into their classroom and extracurricular activities. In 2007, over 180 educators participated thanks to the sponsorship of many local, state, and national sponsors. These five-day programs cover all aspects of energy education and offer three graduate credits to participating educators. Each conference includes a one-day field experience, allowing educators an opportunity to learn about a variety of energy topics. Three graduate hours are offered through Virginia Commonwealth University.

The 2008 Conference Brochure is available and registration is now open. To register now, complete the registration form in the Conference Brochure and fax to NEED at 1-800-847-1820.  Online registration is available here.

In 2008, the conferences will be hosted in Galveston, Texas July 13-17, 2008 and in Las Vegas, Nevada July 20-24, 2008.

  • Cost of the conference is $1,100 and includes double occupancy lodging, most meals, hotel parking, and local transportation to and from the airport in the conference city and curriculum materials.
  • The conferences are not for the faint of heart - but have been noted as the most fun a teacher could have while learning.
  • Attending teachers receive complimentary loan of the NEED Science of Energy Kit, a class-set of NEED Energy Infobooks (at grade level), a CD of all NEED Curriculum Guides, and supplemental resources.
  • This conference is often attended by energy industry education and outreach staff as well.
  • NEED seeks sponsors to support teacher participation.

The goals of the conference include:

Expand educator knowledge of the following subjects related to energy:
· The science of energy, forms of energy, and energy transformations
· Renewable and nonrenewable energy resources, their development, use, and impact on economics and environment
· Generation and transmission of electricity
· Development and use of transportation fuels and the connection of all fuels to the economy and the environment
· Efficient use of energy and the use of energy technologies for conservation and reduction of waste

Integrate energy curriculum materials into classrooms at any grade level and with any group of students and with all learning styles.

Focus on the successful achievement of state and national education goals using correlations of NEED materials to the National Science Education Standards and state standards.

If your organization or company would like to sponsor a teacher or group of teachers to attend, please contact us at 1-800-875-5029 or via email info@need.org.
