National Fuel Energy Detectives

Now in its fourth year, the National Fuel Energy Detectives program provides Western New York teachers and students with teacher training workshops, hands-on classroom curriculum and kits, and the opportunity to share energy conservation practices at home with their families and the Energy Detectives Home Energy Efficiency Kits.  (Teacher Guide, Student Guide

As part of National Fuel's Fuel for Thought effort to encourage energy efficiency and conservation at home, students are learning about energy and climate change in class and taking those lessons home.

The program also enjoys an exciting relationship with the Buffalo Sabres Green Team including classroom visits from Sabretooth and other exciting ways to learn about energy conservation! In March, Buffalo Sabres center Derek Roy appeared at Depew Middle School to honor two students for their work on energy conservation.

This year we are offering two types of workshops:

Energy Detectives: Teachers learn how to turn their students into Energy Detectives. Students find out how their school and homes use energy and how to reduce energy consumption through this hands-on program correlated to NYS Learning Standards.

Climate Detectives:  Teachers learn hands-on ways to teach their students about the energy-climate connection.   Students learn about the science of climate change and how to reduce energy consumption through this hands-on program correlated to New York’s Learning Standards. Attendees receive hands-on kits and materials and participating students receive take-home energy conservation kits.

Check back for upcoming workshops!
